Resumen: Sabemos que los números trascendentes son aquellos que
no son raíces de ecuaciones algebraicas con coeficientes racionales. Su
origen, el origen de la trascendencia, se remonta a los griegos con la
aparición de problemas como la duplicación del cubo, trisección del
ángulo y cuadratura del círculo irresolubles con regla y compás. Entre
1844 fecha en la que nace el primer número trascendente y 1900 fecha en
la que Hilbert plantea el llamado séptimo problema de Hilbert cuya
solución, obtenida en 1934 por Gelfand y Scheider, a partir de los
trabajos de Polya en 1914 y Siegel en 1929, abren las puertas de una
nueva era para esta teoría. En este intervalo de tiempo se produjeron
numerosos eventos importantes que vamos a tratar de desarrollar. En este
artículo vamos a tratar de describir la evolución de los números
trascendentes en los siglos XIX y XX a través de las ideas aportadas por
matemáticos de la talla de Cantor, Hermite, Liouville, etc.

Abstract We know that the
transcendent numbers are those that are not roots of algebraic equations
with rational coefficients. His origin, the origin of the transcendency,
goes back to the Greeks with the appearance of problems as the
duplication of the bucket, trisección of the angle and squaring of the
circle with rule and compass.
Between 1844 dates in that when the
first transcendent number was born and 1900 dates in that Hilbert raises
the Hilbert’s seventh so called problem which solution, obtained in 1934
by Gelfand and Scheider, from Polya’s works in 1914 and Siegel in 1929,
opens the doors of a new age for this theory. In this interval of time
there took place numerous important events that we are going to try to
develop. In this article we are going to try to describe the evolution
of the transcendent numbers in the XIX and XX century across the ideas
contributed by mathematicians of the height of Cantor, Hermite,
Liouville, etc.
